Roanoke County Nutrition Department Receives Awards

Kimberly E. Stevens of Roanoke County has won the School Nutrition Association of Virginia’s (SNA-VA) President’s Award for Excellence at the Association’s state conference in Virginia Beach. She is the Nutrition Manager at Hidden Valley High School and this year’s Chapter President .
Stevens, a certified school nutrition professional, guided our chapter to be recognized as the most outstanding chapter this year in the state (out of 38 chapters). The award is determined by the work a chapter accomplishes. As the local leader, Stevens followed all the guidelines that were required for the award and went the extra mile to bring it home to Roanoke County. This is the 3rd time in four years that Roanoke County has received this Award.
Roanoke County School Nutrition Manager Receives State School Nutrition Award – Physical & Nutrition Education Award
Kimberly E. Stevens of Roanoke County has won the School Nutrition Association of Virginia’s (SNA-VA) inaugural Physical & Nutrition Education Activity Award at the Association’s state conference in Virginia Beach. She is the Nutrition Manager at Hidden Valley High School and this year’s Chapter President.
Stevens, with her nutrition staff and Coach Brenda King developed a walking program for 9th graders and nutrition employees in the county. Donated pedometers were passed out to all participants and top walkers were rewarded with gift certificates.
Roanoke County School Nutrition Manager Receives State School Nutrition Award - State Marketing Award
Lynne Fobare of Roanoke County has won the School Nutrition Association of Virginia’s (SNA-VA) State Marketing Award at the Association’s state conference in Virginia Beach. She is the Nutrition Manager at Masons Cove Elementary School. This is the second year that Roanoke County has won this award.
Fobare, a certified school nutrition professional, implemented the “Masons Cove Café’ ZOO, designating a different animal theme for each breakfast during a week. There were monkeys, tigers, bears, Oh My… plus plenty of fun for the students in the school. Students were rewarded randomly selected prizes and breakfast participation was up 9% for the week.

Kathy Stackpole of Roanoke County has won the School Nutrition Association of Virginia’s (SNA-VA) Louise Sublette Award at the Association’s state conference in Virginia Beach.
She is the Nutrition Manager at Bonsack Elementary School and this year’s Chapter President-elect.
Stackpole, a certified school nutrition professional, is being recognized a person whom has taken an idea, developed into a goal and used that goal to help her nutrition program grow. This award is very detailed and has specific requirements that go above and beyond what is expected in day-to-day activity. The Louise Sublette Award is the highest state award a nutrition manager can earn.
Stackpole and her staff “redesigned” the service area of their operation using monthly themes and colorful imagery to create a warm and welcoming environment while focusing on nutrition education. Students responded favorably to the changes and participation has grown at the school. Stackpole has continued to market her program in various ways throughout this year and the SNA-VA has rewarded her for her efforts. This is the second year in a row that Roanoke County has brought home this most prestigious award.
