Board names Minnix as Chairman, sets 2012 meeting dates

The Roanoke County School Board has named Cave Spring District representative H. Odell “Fuzzy” Minnix as Chairman of the School Board for 2012. This is his first term as chairman. He served as Vice-Chairman of the board in 2011. Minnix was first elected to the Roanoke County School Board in 2007 and was re-elected to the board in 2011. Before serving on the Roanoke County School Board, Minnix served on the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors for 12 years, serving as chairman three times.

Also, the board named Hollins District representative Jerry Canada as Vice-Chairman. Canada previously has served as chairman four times and several times as vice-chairman. Canada was appointed to the Roanoke County School Board in 1992. He was elected to the board in 1994 and was re-elected in 1997, 2001, 2005 and 2009.
