2009 eSchool News Tech-Savvy Superintendent Award Winners Named

eSchool News (eSN) announces today the top ten superintendents from around the nation named to this year’s roster of leading chief school executives who exemplify outstanding leadership in the use of technology to further educational goals. The winners of the 2009 eSN Tech-Savvy Superintendent Awards are:

Laureates of the Ninth Annual eSN Tech-Savvy Superintendent Awards Program, sponsored by Promethean, Pearson Foundation and K12 Inc., are invited to an exclusive, private luncheon to be held on February 20, 2009, at the San Francisco Marriott to coincide with the annual American Association of School Administrators’ National Conference on Education. The awards ceremony, which will be held in conjunction with The Century Club 100¹ annual luncheon, will feature presentation of awards, a keynoter speaking on the 21st Century Superintendent Project, and an opportunity for the 2009 honorees to share ideas and network with past winners and members of the elite superintendents’ group.

Gregg Downey, publisher and president of eSchool News, remarks, “Superintendents set the tone and provide the vision for how their school systems employ technology to help teachers and students engage 21st century demands. Through this awards program, we want to recognize the nation’s most technologically savvy chief school executives and provide real-life examples other superintendents can emulate.”

Launched in 2001, the Tech-Savvy Superintendent Awards (TSSA) Program honors K-12 educators who have displayed exemplary vision in the use of technology to further the goals of educating today’s students and equip them with 21st century skills. Initially, superintendents are nominated by their colleagues and peers. Once a field of hundreds of nominations are culled, the editors of eSN along with past-years’ TSSA laureates select the current cohort of ten winners. Criteria used to screen the winners are found in the “Ten Hallmarks of Excellence,” which include effective use of technology day-to-day, distributing resources among students and staff district wide, offering training resources, integrating technology into the curriculum, and using technology to improve business operations.

In support of the TSSA Program, eSchool News Network provides broad editorial coverage in its print and online publications along with video excerpts of the awards ceremony as well as interviews with the winning superintendents on its online video channel, www.eSchoolNews.TV.
