Chip Donahue, third grade science and social studies teacher at Glen Cove Elementary, has been named the 2012 Roanoke County Educator of the Year by the Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce.
“Mr. Donahue is a strong advocate for teaching children to preserve their environment,” said Glen Cove Elementary School Principal Jan Nichols.
“He helps students recognize their talents and strengths as well as developing their interests in science and social studies. His personal outside experiences have given him a strong background with which to teach science and the students learn from those personal anecdotes that he weaves throughout his instruction. Mr. Donahue also shows amazing respect for his students. His desire for their success is seen in each interaction as he works to build self-confidence as well as helping them develop respect for each other in the classroom. Students respond to his genuine concern for them and work hard to learn the content,” Nichols said.
The chamber previously named Donahue and his wife, Ashley as the 2011 Citizens of the Year.
